Session 1: Basic Operating Run!

Introduction:

Slingshot WEST is a private Alberta, Canada company created to empower you, the User/Builder, with the information, drawings and electronic machine files - the 'art' to build or customize the same WindBineTM wind generator that the Inventor made!

The WindBineTM has been designed for your independence!  You can build and supply all of your own mechanical elements without needing Slingshot WEST, from the 'art' - the information, drawings and electronic machine files, and then use your own local shops and machining and punch and powder coating services - you will not ever need to purchase anything further from the Slingshot West Store!  This is inherent and planned in the design of the WindBineTM!

You may also wish to purchase certain physical components of the WindBineTM that we have already designed such as the printed circuit boards for connecting the WindBineTM for battery charging and for control, monitoring, data recording and interface with the Graphical User Interface!  You may also wish to purchase the operating software from the Slingshot WEST Store and other elements such as alternators, transformers or charge controllers and props!  And although I would recommend that you purchase some or all of these elements from the Slingshot WEST Store as it will simply the extent of your work, it is not essential that you do so - it all depends on your resourcefulness and how DIY (Do It Yourself) you are!

The WindBineTM was intentionally designed to minimize manufacturing costs.  Even the WindBineTM trailer and dolly used to build the WindBIneTM on is not a manufacturing tool as it is also used to locally transport the WindBineTM to your base for setup!  Obviously tools are used in the construction but no costly manufacturing tooling or jigs are necessary for manufacture!  So the power and independence have truly been placed in your hands!  The assumption is that - if you have such an independent and resourceful nature that you want you own electrical power source and not be dependent on 'public utilities', then you likely want the independence to supply your own parts!  As well, for maintenance of your own wind machine, when you build it yourself you know every detail of the construction and therefore know every detail of its maintenance!  And for that, you will be proud!

Basic Operating Run:

  • Start GUI
  • Software Installation on computer in document on Slingshot WEST Store titled, "WindBineTM Graphical User Interface "Description"
  • Log in as 'User'
  • Open 'All' window to show all props
  • Release brakes!
  • Run in 'Auto' mode
  • Review 'Gauges'
  • Review 'Tuned Power Density' indicating efficiency of WindBine to extract energy from wind!  (Watts per metre^3 of air moving through rotor or prop blades x 100)
  • Alternator 'field' Setup - easily setup alternator field control to maximize 'Tuned Power Density'!  Wind generators are expected to extract wind power according to Power increasing with the Windspeed^3.  This cannot be achieved unless the alternator field is increased with increasing windspeeds, or in the case of the WindBineTM, with the resulting increase in Prop RPM!  The alternators developed for the Inventor's WindBineTM are designed to achieve this relationship while increasing the Field Current linearly, from say 0 amps at 0 RPM to about 4 amps at 550 RPM (with a 24 volt supply).  This provides very easy pre-calibration for best efficiency!
  • Run and observe with additional notes/comments!
